Foreigners need Inner Line Permit
(ILP) to visit Sikkim. These can be obtained from
all Indian Missions, Sikkim Tourism Offices at New
Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri and Rangpo on the
strength of an Indian Visa.
For those interested in going for trekking in the
interior region of the State, the Department of
Tourism issues Protected Area Permit (PAP) at
Gangtok which is available for certain specified
area for group consisting of two or more foreigners
subject to the condition that the trekking programme
is arranged through a registered travel agency. |

Transport and Communication |

The nearest airport is Bagdogra,
124 Km from Gangtok, capital of Sikkim. Indian
Airlines, Jet Airways and Deccan Air services
operate regular flights to Bagdogra from Delhi,
Kolkata and Guwahati. Sikkim Tourism operates daily
a five-seater helicopter service between Gangtok and
Bagdogra. The nearest railway stations are New
Jalpaiguri (125 Km) and Siliguri (114 Km). Gangtok
is connected by all weather roads with Darjeeling,
Kalimpong and Siliguri. |
